Clinics

Integrated Social Prescribers

Our social prescribers link people to activities, groups and services in our area to support social and emotional health wellbeing. Social prescribers give people time, focussing on what matters to you.

Telephone Advice

Reception will take details from the patient and pass this to the nurse or doctor and if appropriate, a nurse or doctor will return the call and give appropriate advice.

Special Clinics

We run a range of clinics for asthma, diabetes, hypertension (raised blood pressure), childhood immunisation, cervical screening and travel clinic. We also run a flu clinic at appropriate times of the year.

Request an appointment and please make sure the Receptionist is aware of your needs.

Children and Babies

The Hawthorn Drive Surgery offers advice, up-to-date information and parent-to-parent support.

Children under 5

All babies will be sent an appointment with the Doctor for a check between 6 to 8 weeks. The health Visitor performs other developmental checks and refers on if there are any concerns. We recommend that all children should be fully immunised against diphtheria, whooping cough, polio, tetanus and hib, measles. mumps and rubella, meningococcal C and pneumococcal.

Child Health surveillance

Child immunisations by appointment only (Practice Nurse).

Antenatal and Pregnancy

The Hawthorn Drive Surgery have an attached midwife to whom pregnant women may self-refer. She is able to advise on care for delivery and up to 10 days post-delivery.

The midwife liaises with secondary care at Ipswich Hospital, where there are facilities for water birth, natural assisted delivery and Caesarean section.

Ante Natal Clinic

These clinics are based at the Willows Children's Centre Thursdays 9am to 4pm, please speak to a receptionist to book these appointments (Midwife)

Post-Natal Clinic

Monday to Friday, these clinics are made by the surgery with letters sent to patients (Dr)

Contraception

Family Planning and Sexual Health Advice by appointment (all Drs/Nurse).

Screening Services

The Hawthorn Drive Surgery offer screenings at the practice - you don’t have to have the tests, but they’re a good idea as they help identify health conditions quickly so you can start treatment early.

Cervical smears

All women 25 to 65 years of age, will be offered a cervical smear test as per the government guidelines. A reminder will be sent to make an appointment, usually with the Practice Nurse.

You will be informed of your test result by post 6 to 8 weeks after the test.

Breast screening

All women between 50 to 64 years of age will be called for breast screening on a 3 yearly basis. The Breast Screening department telephone number at the Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust is 01473 703343 if you have any queries.

Well Person Checks For The Over 40's

NHS health checks are currently by invitation only for 40 to 75 year olds, typically available every 5 years.
